Edit Subtitle Settings

This dialog lets you set the various subtitle settings for a device. It has 3 variations depending on the type of subtitles.

Click this button to add a language to the language list.

Click this button to remove a language from the language list.

Click this button to move a language up in the language list.

Click this button to move a language down in the language list.

This contains a list of the video containers that do work with embedded subtitles.

This contains a list of the video containers that do not work with external subtitles.

Click this button to add a video container to the video container list.

Click this button to remove a video container from the video container list.

Click this button to move a video container up in the video container list.

Click this button to move a video container down in the video container list.

This contains a list of the embedded subtitle formats that work with the selected device.

This contains a list of the external subtitle formats that work with the selected device.

This contains a list of the subtitle encoding values that are supported by the device. If you are streaming a subtitle file to your device and the subtitle file does not match any of the encoding values listed in this dialog, then Mezzmo will automatically convert the subtitle file to a supported encoding value so that your device will display the subtitles in the correct manner.

Consult your device's manual or setup menus to find the list of supported subtitle encodings and enter them into this dialog. Note that different regional models of the same device may support different sets of encoding values - for example, an LG TV purchased in Europe may have different encoding values as compared to the same LG TV model purchased in Asia.

Tip: If the encoding list is empty, then Mezzmo will stream the original subtitle file to the device without any subtitle encoding conversion. This can be useful if you want to see if your device supports the encoding contained in the subtitle file or you don't want Mezzmo to convert the encoding of your subtitle files.

Tip: If subtitles are displayed on your device but are not readable, then the selected encoding on your device may be set wrong. Try changing the encoding on your device using the device's remote control. Typically you can do this when you are playing the video on your device and press the Tools or Menu or Options button on your device's remote control. Look for the subtitle section in the device's menus and change the encoding or codepage value. The list of encoding or codepage values listed on your device is what you should enter into this dialog.

Tip: Many devices support UTF-8 (65001) encoding and this Unicode-based encoding value covers all languages, so adding this encoding can produce good results. When adding Unicode-based UTF-8, adding the BOM signature is important. Some devices want a BOM signature in UTF-8 encoded subtitles and some do not. Try adjusting the BOM for Unicode files checkbox if your subtitles are not readable.

Tip: If you make changes to your supported encoding values, then it is a good idea to delete your transcoded files for this device since subtitle files may have already been converted and stored for future streaming by Mezzmo. Go to the Transcoding tab in the Device Settings dialog to delete transcoded files for this device.

Click this button to add a subtitle format to the subtitle format list.

Click this button to remove a subtitle format from the subtitle format list.

Click this button to move a subtitle format up in the subtitle format list.

Click this button to move a subtitle format down in the subtitle format list.

Click this checkbox if you want Mezzmo to stream your external subtitle files to the device when streaming 3D video. Some devices may not display external subtitles correctly when streaming 3D video, so you should uncheck this checkbox to tell Mezzmo to burn your external subtitles into the 3D video.

Tip: Go to the Properties dialog (Video tab) for a video to select whether a video is 2D or 3D and what type of 3D system is used (side-by-side, top-and-bottom, frame packing). This is used by Mezzmo when burning subtitles into the video and when resizing the video to match the preferred maximum video size.

Click this checkbox if you want Mezzmo to insert a Byte Order Mark (BOM) characters at the front of Unicode-encoded subtitle files. Some devices want a BOM signature in Unicode or UTF-8 encoded subtitles and some do not. Try adjusting this BOM setting if your subtitles are not readable and you are streaming Unicode subtitle files.
